About SIP Mutual Fund Calculator

Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs) are the most popular way Indians invest in mutual funds. This calculator projects the future value of a regular monthly investment assuming a constant annualised return. Equity mutual funds have historically delivered 10–15% CAGR over long periods, while hybrid and debt funds offer lower but more stable returns.

Use realistic expected returns (10–12% for diversified equity) and longer horizons for better accuracy. Actual returns will vary with market conditions. The calculator does not account for expense ratio, exit load or capital gains tax.

Practical Tips (India)

Tip 1: Start early — an extra 5 years of SIP can double the wealth-gained portion thanks to compounding.
Tip 2: Assume 10–12% for diversified equity, 8–10% for hybrid, and 6–7% for debt funds; avoid inflated expectations.
Tip 3: Review fund performance vs its benchmark every year, but stay invested through volatility for the full horizon.

Frequently Asked Questions

What return should I assume for equity SIPs?
A conservative long-term assumption is 10–12% for large-cap or flexi-cap funds. Higher assumptions increase projected corpus but also risk of shortfall.
Does this include expense ratio?
No. The expected return you enter should already be net of expense ratio if you want a more accurate projection.
Can I calculate step-up SIP?
This version is for fixed monthly SIP. For annual step-up, increase the SIP amount manually and re-run the calculation for different periods.
Is SIP better than lump sum?
SIP reduces timing risk through rupee-cost averaging and is suitable for most salaried investors. Lump sum can work if you have a large amount and long horizon.
How accurate is the projection?
It is an estimate based on constant return. Real markets fluctuate. Use it for planning, not as a guaranteed outcome.
